Breaking Load vs. Working Load - Each Manufacturer rates their product differently when it comes to the Load Limits that apply to their product.
Breaking Load (P.L.) - The "Point Load" Breaking Load of the shackle, the load is only applied at the center or one side of the shackle pin.
Breaking Load (U.D.L.) - The "Uniformly Distributed Load" Breaking Load of the shackle; the load is applied across the full span of the shackle pin. When available this is the Breaking Load specification that is used in our descriptions.
Working Load Limit- Working Load Limit of the shackle is approximately 20% of average breaking strength, which allows for a 5-to-1 safety factor.
